The 2025 Newbery & Caldecott Medals are announced in January as part of the American Library Association's (ALA) Youth Media Awards.
This year the awards are announced on Monday, January 27 at 8 AM MT during LibLearnX.
How the awards are selected
- A committee of librarians and other experts reviews books published in the previous year
- The committee selects the book that makes the most distinguished contribution to American children's literature
The Caldecott Award is awarded to for excellence in illustration, typically children's picture books.
Also included in the ALA Youth Media Awards are the Printz Award and Coretta Scott King Book Award.
