MN Library Legacy | History in the Classroom

he Northwest Regional Libraries introduce Historical Actor, Dwight Scott, as Frederick McKinley Jones in Red Lake Falls, Greenbush, Hallock, Warroad, Thief River Falls and Warren.


Bring the whole family out to enjoy a lively 45-minute lesson presented by a costumed interpreter from the Minnesota Historical Society who will lead the group in a fun, interactive journey through the life and inventions of Frederick McKinley Jones.

A self-taught mechanic, Jones held more than sixty patents, most for refrigeration systems. During the hot Minneapolis summer of 1938, his mechanical mind and inventive spirit lead to the development of truck refrigeration for Minnesota’s Thermo King Company, which dramatically changed the food industry.  Millions who had never eaten anything grown beyond a 50-mile radius now enjoyed food from around the world.

The Historical Society actor will be presenting at numerous times and locations, including public schools and other partner locations. The following performances are open to the public:
