MN Library Legacy | Author John Coy

he public is invited to meet author, speaker and educator, John Coy.  Surrounded by a family of teachers, John developed a love for books and reading early in life.  His varied interests in travel, history and sports are reflected in the wide variety of his book’s subjects.  John spends much of his time as a writer-in-residence at elementary schools and has worked extensively with developmentally disabled adults and children.  He makes his home near the Mississippi River in Minneapolis with his wife and daughter.

John describes how he is inspired by “things that happened to me, things I wanted to have happen to me, and things I can’t imagine happening to me”.  From his first quiet picture book, Night Driving, to his young adult sports dramas, Crackback and Box Out, John writes books he would have loved to read in his youth.  Currently, he is writing a sports series for middle grade students.  The first two in the series of four, Eyes on the Goal and Top of the Order, were recently published.  His books continue to win awards for excellence and realism while sometimes dealing with serious subjects faced by young adults.

Beginning at 5:30 PM at the Roseau Public Library, John will demystify the process he uses to create a sports picture book.  You will be inspired as he shows how his ideas go from concept to published books.

At 7 PM join John for “Eyes on the Goal” and hear about how life, like sports, can be unpredictable, frustrating and exhilarating.   A book signing will follow.
