MN Legacy | Sloughgrass Band

ome experience the Sloughgrass Family Band. They bring a blend of Bluegrass, Old-time, Scandinavian, Gospel, Country and Folk music—what they call “mosquito moving music.” Their show is sure to be a hit with the whole family. Musicians welcome to join in a jam session.

This presentation takes the audience on a ghostly journey to some of the most haunted places in Minnesota. It covers the entire state, from Wandering Ghosts in the North Woods to the Haunted B&B in Wabasha. From Phantom creatures prowling the woods to graveyard apparitions located in your own backyard, no place in MN is without its own haunting. Complete with photos, case history, eyewitness accounts, ghost lore, and directions, this unique presentaion encourages you to visit these places for your own ghost story.

atrick Dewane tells the story of his grandfather, a man whose seemingly goofy CB radio-handle during the 1970′s “the Accidental Hero” was really a clue to his incredible story as a WWII Czech-American soldier fighting in the forests of his family’s ancient homeland. Dewane’s grandfather, Matt Konop, rarely talked about the war, but years after his death a relative gave him a pile of typewritten pages Konop has written. The Accidental Hero is a one-man play about history, the reality of war and the mystery of heroes.

From his first quiet picture book, Night Driving, to his young adult sports dramas, Crackback and Box Out. John writes books he would have loved to read in his youth. His books win awards for excellence and realism while sometimes dealing with serious subjects faced by young adults. Join John as he discusses one of his most recent books, “Eyes on the Goal”, and hear about how life, like sports, can be unpredictable, frustrating and exhilarating.

MN Library Legacy | History in the Classroom

Minnesota Historical Society History Player will use props, artifacts and costumes to present the story of Frederick McKinely Jones, a self-taught, African-American engineer, who had an impact on industry, the home, battlefield, and even outer space. A former race car driver and mechanic, Jones created the first mechanical refrigeration system for trucks in 1935. Some of Jones’ other inventions were a portable x-ray machine, an air conditioning unit for military field hospitals and a refrigerator for military field kitchens. Please join us for this engaging, thought-provoking and educational performance.
