Discovery Club Lexile Rotation Collection: a collection of books based on the Lexile reading level scores given to each child from the MN state reading test. The collection is divided into 8 fun themes and includes all five Lexile ranges within each theme.
Family and Daycare Story Time Kits: a complete story hour in one box. Contains 5-6 books on a theme with discussion questions, activity suggestion, and finger plays along with an enhancement activity.
Guided Reading and Lexile. These are programs that help a child and parent find the appropriate books for the child’s reading level
Pre-school Story time - Children have the opportunity to listen to favorite stories as well as choose books they wish to take home for reading. Click here for branch schedule
Project for Tots - A bag containing a free book and a list of community services for young children is presented to mothers of newborns to children three years of age.
Service to daycare facilities - A box or tote of books, videos, and other library materials are available for check- out from the library to daycare facilities for use by children enrolled. Some libraries even deliver these materials to daycare facilities.
Summer Reading Program - Designed to encourage elementary children to practice their reading skills during the summer months. The program includes entertainment and prizes. Check each branch for special programs dates and times.
Winter Reading Program- Families of all ages are encouraged to read together during the cold winter months. Targets parents and care givers of school-age children. Check with your branch for details
One final note: for the safety of children in a public facility, the Northwest Regional Library Board has adopted the following Policy for Unattended Children.
Preschool - 3rd grade children shall be attended and supervised by a parent, guardian or caretaker while they are in the library. School-age children 3rd grade and up may use the library unattended, subject to appropriate behavior. Caretakers shall be 12 years of age or older.
Staff members will seek the location of parents/guardians who leave preschool -3rd grade children unattended in the library and inform them of this policy. If a child is left in the library at closing time, library staff will call the police. Under no circumstances shall a staff member take the child out of the building.
